Acupuncture is proven to help make the early transition of addiction to sobriety more comfortable with a respite to both physical pain and emotional anxieties that occur during treatment. Prolonged abuse of alcohol and drugs leads to the breakdown of many tissues and organs, leaving behind destructive toxins in your muscles and bloodstream ~ These toxins can cause physical pain and emotional trauma. At Tranquility Woods, we provide acupuncture treatments to help rid the body of toxins and chemicals left behind by chemical abuse. Acupuncture is a relaxing and highly effective way to cleanse the body, relieve stress, release toxins, as well as regain a healthy energy and balance to the mind and body. Our Acupuncture Therapy is offered two times per week, and is just one of the many holistic techniques we offer to treat the mind, body and soul.

Aftercare Planning

The primary goal of the TW aftercare program is to ensure there is a smooth transition to the next step of clinical care and an appropriate sober living environment. Our number one initiative when determining aftercare is to ensure that clinical progress and goals are maintained.

  • Current clinician to aftercare clinician continuum care discussion of goals, objectives, and cultural needs to allow for patient success.
  • Proper medical documentation is seamlessly transferred to the next level of medical care.
  • Long term plan of up to a year is established that included treatment, living, peer coaching, and support groups.
  • TW communication follow-up calls are established at 1 month, 6 months, and a 1 year after treatment.
  • Engagement of discharged clients into the TW alumni community with invitation to events, recovery blogs and articles and relapse prevention tips.

Chronic Pain Program

Chronic pain is usually debilitating and will consume one’s life if not handled properly. Additionally, chronic pain, like addiction, usually affects the family and in destructive ways. Chronic pain is unique, in that most pain patients are medicating to prevent physical pain that they have been suffering with for years. However, in many cases, the reality is that the original source of the pain is often no longer a problem for those patients. In fact, it is the emotional pain and the anticipation of pain that can be so debilitating. In other cases, the chronic pain has never been addressed effectively from the beginning. In most cases, opiates are not necessary and a pain-free life can be sustained by non-opiate adjunctive procedures and techniques.

At Tranquility Woods, our clients work with some of the top pain physicians in the country. They collaborate with our clinical team, comprehensive holistic program, nutritional and physical programs to provide a comfortable and sustainable recovery from the pain they so desperately fear.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or CBT is a psycho-therapeutic approach that is designed to build trust between the counselor and the client. It has proven to be successful in treating alcohol and drug addiction. CBT is valuable in uncovering underlying emotional disorders and teaching patients to understand that many of their issues stem from their own thoughts rather than outside stimuli. By recognizing this and learning systematic techniques to change, individuals will be more likely to prevent those urges to drink or take drugs in the future.

Depending on the individual, addictive substance, the frequency of use, and the duration of abuse, detoxification will vary. At Tranquility Woods, we will coordinate your detoxification care with our partnered detox physicians and programs.

Alcohol detoxification
Prescription drug detoxification
Recreational drug detoxification

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) combines standard cognitive behavioral techniques for emotional regulation and reality testing with concepts of distress tolerance, acceptance and mindful awareness, largely derived from Buddhist meditative practice. DBT has shown to be effective in treating chemical dependency and mood disorders. DBT is another individual therapy integrated into Tranquility Woods overall treatment program, specifically designed for each client.

Dual Diagnosis Treatment

For many people that come to Tranquility Woods for addiction recovery, it is not uncommon that they also suffer from a mental health disorder. In this case, the individual has a co-occurring disorder, also known as a dual diagnosis. This means that a substance abuse addiction occurs simultaneously with mental health issues. Our professionals ensure that each individual is properly assessed for signs of mental health disorders because treating each disorder individually, will almost certainly lead to relapse. The two problems are so intimately connected that they require very deliberate and specific care to address each of the issues simultaneously.

According to the Journal of Substance Abuse Treatment, the mental illnesses most commonly co-occurring alongside substance abuse are:

• Mood disorders (depression, bipolar disorder)
• Anxiety disorders
• Obsessive compulsive disorders
• Post traumatic stress disorder
• Personality disorders

Some patients are already aware of their mental health disorder, others may not be, while others of course, may not fall into the co-occurring disorder category.

Equine Therapy

Equine therapy can have a dramatic, positive impact for successful addiction therapy. It is well known across many therapeutic modalities, the benefits that horses provide to people. Since horses personalities are so similar and varied, like humans, it is easy for individuals to create connections with them. The equine program at Tranquility Woods helps clients build confidence, self-esteem and boundaries.

What is Equine Therapy?

Exercise Therapy

At Tranquility Woods, we believe that exercise therapy is imperative to our treatment program. A healthy life style, including exercise, nutrition and recreational activities, are essential to relapse prevention. Tranquility Woods offers regular exercise instruction, both on and off site.

By replacing destructive lifestyle habits with healthy habits during your stay at Tranquility Woods, you will learn skills to transform your body, in addition to your mind. You will become a whole person. Regular exercise will help reduce stress and anxiety, improve sleep and increase everyday energy ~ All of which can greatly assist in achieving sustainable sobriety.

Experiential Therapy

At Tranquility Woods, you’ll spend time each day doing something that relaxes or stimulates you. We believe a well-rounded person is a healthier person, and by partaking in some of the activities below you’ll develop and build interests in activities that don’t involve drugs or alcohol. You’ll be able to use and return to these activities after your time at Tranquility Woods and build a life that’s not centered around addiction or substance abuse.

For those individuals who prefer less stimulating or less physical activities, we offer enough options to fit every person’s needs. Oftentimes, relaxation is the best medicine.

List of Common Activities we offer

Family Counseling

In many cases, family members, friends, and other loved ones are involved in an individual’s choice to begin a treatment program after staging some sort of an intervention. Keeping those who care as part of the recovery process is important for full rehabilitation.

At Tranquility Woods, we offer weekly Family Education, as well as Family Visitation. It’s crucial that family members become knowledgeable about addiction and learn how to support rather than hamper an addict’s recovery.

In addition, we work privately, through one-on–one therapy, to rebuild honest communication and allow for trust to return to broken relationships.

During individual and family counseling, addicts will discover and recognize the negative and false beliefs that have brought them to their current dependency. Family counseling is paramount to a healthy sustainable recovery. During counseling:

  • Therapists help with one-on-one sessions
  • Families learn how to communicate with each other again
  • It becomes clear how close relationships have suffered
  • Family sessions help to provide for honest communication and healing
  • Together, families recover together and rebuild broken relationships

Goals of Family Counseling

In Group therapy sessions, clients recognize that many share their experiences and feelings, which helps to remove the sense of isolation and raise self-esteem. Group sessions encourage clients to help each other. They share coping skills and support one another. The group setting provides a safe and supportive environment for individuals to improve interpersonal behavior, communications and social skills.Clients will share experiences and difficult situations that stimulate their addictive tendencies. In doing so, they learn how to deal with them. Group therapy is another powerful modality Tranquility Woods offers in its fully integrated program. Group sessions include topics such as grief, loss, anger, stress, and shame.

Individual Therapy

Individual, one-on-one therapy is the cornerstone of the Tranquility Woods program. Our individual program is unparalleled in the recovery community. Every patient we see is unique as are his or her problems and needs. Clients will benefit from a minimum of 4-5 hours of one on one individual therapy sessions weekly. This allows patients to express themselves privately and comfortably.

Relapse Prevention Planning

During relapse prevention planning, you will learn to identify the stages of relapse so that you will be better prepared and able to prevent the relapse process. Relapse does not only include the moment when sobriety is broken with substance use, but it is a process that can start weeks or even months before an addict physically uses again.
